Isis Wings

Glorious large, pleated shiny organza wings available now !! Stunning new style from Egypt; well-made silky organza wings edged in sparkly gold or silver thread, catches the light. Gorgeous.

Two light sticks (either hollow pvc pipe or bamboo) are inserted in each upper wing to hold the butterfly shape and the neckpiece is held in place with velcro. Each set of isis wings comes with it's own carry case for easy transporting and to make sure your wings stay clean and in tip top condition.

These wings measure 430cm x 450cm (169" x 177") when opened. From neck to floor is approx 145cm (57"). These will be suitable for heights of 5'5" and up.

Wings may be shortened or shortened for you by an experienced seamstress.

DISCLAIMER: shorten at your own risk as this is a "suggested" plan of attack to be carried out, preferably, by an experienced seamstress. We will not be held responsible for things going wrong. Lay the wings flat on the ground. Work out how much you need to trim off then cut carefully then repeat for the second wing, or if you're brave, cut both at the same time. Next, hem the raw edges. It would be best achieved with an overlocker and then ironing the pleats back in at the new edge. Be sure to set the iron on a cool setting as you don't want to melt the fabric. TEST A SMALL AREA and increase the heat gradually until you reach the point of safe ironing. Remember, you don't want to melt the fabric!! Alternatively, you could use a pressing cloth over the wings as you iron.

A second way to shorten the wings is to shorten it from the neck. First, make some tacking stitches to hold the pleats in place. It would be a good idea to also work out how much to remove and do a second set of tacking stitches at the new neckband spot. Make sure these stitches are strong enough. Carefully unpick the wings from the neckband. Cut off the excess amount making sure you cut above the tacking stitches to allow for the seam. Reposition back onto the neckband and stitch in place. Before reattaching, you could zig zag across the new edge for extra strength. This is how I shortened my wings and for something different, I replaced the neckband with matching Ribbon backed by non-roll elastic for stability (the neckband does not stretch however) and I used a tailor's hook and eye instead of velcro to close it. Please email me for more information or pictures of my new neckband.

A note on imperfections
As always, everything that comes from Egypt will always have some small imperfection. My belly dancing teacher calls these allahs as nothing else is perfect - maybe you have noticed an odd colour bead in fringing? But back to the wings, I have checked them all and they are good quality wings and you won't be disappointed. Refunds or exchanges will only be accepted if there is something drastically wrong with the wings, for example, if it is noticeable from far away, ie, from the stage.

Caring for you Wings
When you first receive your wings, you should hang them up to remove any crinkles that may have formed from being folded up in the bag. These crinkles are not noticeable during performances. You should keep them hanging up rather than in the bag when not in use.
